USV - Unmanned Space Vehicles

The PRORA-USV program is an extensive and challenging program of CIRA , the Italian Aerospace Research Centre to develop and validate key technologies for the future generation of reusable space transportation vehicles. The program is based on a number of test vehicles (FTB) to fly different test missions. Current program activities are focused on the development of a transonic demonstrator (FTB1).
CGS is Prime Contractor for the development and manufacturing the FTB1 Structure and Mechanisms, which include the whole airframe, the hydraulic and the recovery systems and the thermal control. The first flight test vehicle FTB1 has been launched on February 24, 2007 by a stratosferic balloon from Sardinia, for its first transonic test mission.
